Parent Newsletter 9/9/19

El Paso Leadership Families were CRSHHing it during “Back to School Night” this past week.

Congratulations to CRSHH winners Valeria Mondragon (6th), Jessica Vargas (7th), Fernanda Pineda (8th)

Week four of the 2019-2020 school year was fantastic!!!  A big “Shout-Out” to our scholars, their families, and the El Paso Leadership Academy staff for an outstanding continuation of the school year successes.  We continue to have a lot to celebrate—weekly CRSHH winners, a new level of success for our 7th grade book readings, increased I-station results, and the best student body in El Paso.

This past week, our students took their Beginning-of-the-Year MAPS tests (Reading, Math, Language).  It is the first time we have tested our students on the Language MAPS assessment.  We plan to use the data to provide targeted supports for our English Learners as we move forward in our academic progress.  Our teachers and administrators will be analyzing all of the data this week and identifying strategies to provide enhanced personalized supports for our scholars.

Our PowerHour RTI program has been very successful as well.  Our staff has been incorporating the new “Blended Learning” strategies during this hour to provide more direct supports for the scholars.  The teachers are also utilizing the I-Station computer program to assist in meeting each scholar’s individual needs.

EPLA held its’ annual “Back to School Night” last Wednesday, September 4, 2019 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  Thank you to all of the families who were able to join us for this information night.  In addition to learning about the campus’ operations, families were provided information on the Title I Schoolwide program—for which EPLA qualifies.  At the end of the night, our CEO, Mr. Yanar, held an information session on the new eSports program EPLA is starting this year.  The eSports program is a computer gaming program that offers opportunities for EPLA scholars to compete with teams across the state of Texas, and allowing for advancement to National and International events.  This competition also provides opportunities for academic scholarships for our scholars.  Mr. Avalos will be serving as the eSport sponsor.  If you would like more information on the eSports program, please reach out to Mr. Casillas, Director of Operations at 915-298-3900.

The upcoming week is also filled with events that are worth noting.  Our September “Coffee with the Principal” is being expanded to include an “Iced Coffee with the Principal” to allow for parents to interact with the Principal and Director of Operations either during the morning or in the early evening.  We look forward to sharing updates and conducting a questions and answers session with those families who are able to attend.  Please mark your calendars for Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. or 5:30 p.m.
