Each camp is setup as a Monday-Friday half-day, two-week session with a fee of $100. To join us for the full-day, two-week session, fee is $200.

  • AM sessions begin at 9:00 am and end at 12:00 pm. PM sessions begin at 12:30 pm and end at 3:30 pm.
  • Campers who will be in AM & PM session will be provided lunch. All campers will be provided snacks.
  • Camps will be held at the El Paso Leadership Academy, 1918 Texas Avenue El Paso, TX 79901 (unless otherwise noted)
Session 1: June 18-29

Introduction to Chess – AM Session

In this camp you will learn the basics of how to play chess and even get to take it a little further to understand some strategies behind the game. Chess players have been proven to show superior cognitive ability compared to non-chess players such as fluid reasoning, memory, and processing speed. So not only is this game fun and puts one in a fun social environment, it can also help one in school at the same time. Beginners to advanced players are welcome!

Number Sense – AM Session

Number sense summer camp will consist of a journey to master mental math and reason with numerical problems that have more than one possible answer. Number sense encourages scholars to think flexibly in math procedures and promotes confidence with numbers in all ages and grades. Number Sense will provide a strong foundation in simple arithmetic which students will need to answer more complex world-problems.

Storytelling through Film – AM Session

An interactive film camp that teaches young thinkers how to use media available at their fingertips already to tell stories to make a difference in the world. This camp engages students in the art of documentary filmmaking with directing, shooting and editing a film based around a socially conscious based subject. Students will leave with minute of an idea documentary they will direct one day.

Intro to Drama – AM Session

Our intro to drama camp will teach your student the basic foundations of Drama. Students will learn the basics of script analysis, character development, acting fundamentals and presentation. We will also explore the realms of costume, makeup, and set design in this two-week intensive class.

Fantastic Fine Arts – PM Session

In this camp students will learn about the history of art and music. Participants will be introduced to the origins of the fine arts and learn history, theory, and criticism. Participants will be exposed to different art styles and variety of music genres and students will draw and listen to music. Students will be encouraged to think creatively and critically and will be exposed to diverse cultures through all periods of history.

Car Modeling – PM Session

June 30th, 2018 marks the 65th anniversary that production began on the 1953 Chevrolet Corvette, one of the most iconic cars in automotive history! In this camp, students will learn basic modeling techniques to complete a fine scale example of this car which they will each be able to take home upon completion of the camp. Skills and methods learned can be used to continue the modeling hobby at home. In addition to standard paint brushes, students will learn how to paint their models with an airbrush and learn about other detailing techniques using paint and glue to assemble the kit.

Drama Production Camp – PM Session

Production camp is designed to go hand-in-hand with our intro to drama camp but also available to those who simply wish to try their hand at acting. Students will be given the opportunity to learn and perform small monologues and skits designed to challenge students of various skill levels. Students will also have the opportunity to play Theatre games and learn about the art of impromptu acting. Attendance for this class is vital to the production quality and students are discouraged from missing more than one day a week in this two-week intensive program. Students must be prepared to memorize lines in a short amount of time. This Camp is open to young artists of all skill levels.

Session 2: July 16-27

Computer Coding – AM Session (Week of July 16-20 ONLY) $50

Campers will learn the fundamental concepts of computer coding by creating their own video game. They will design, program, and publish their game using an online, drag-and-drop software.

Chess Masters – PM Session

Have you been struggling to beat that one person in chess? Develop your chess skills with Ajith Kumar. We will look through simple and complex chess puzzles and common positions that you will come across when playing a game and the best strategies to deal with them. You will also get to meet and play with kids at your level and with those who will challenge you to get better so that you can finally checkmate that one person you’ve been trying to!  Basic chess knowledge needed.

Focusing in math with number sense knowledge gives the scholar an immense advantage having already the simple arithmetic to answer more complex world-problems.

Multimedia Production Camp – PM Session

In this camp students will learn several multimedia production tools including: How to create short narrative videos and create an archive library. How to create the basis to ethnography video archives to tell a story-which is aligned with higher education. How to shoot, compose, and edit videos, mini documentary, advertising, webisodes, music videos. How to align your content of choice and couple with a social media marketing campaign to build up the brand awareness within target audiences.

Latinitas Summer Camp

We are thrilled to announce that EPLA has been selected to host the Latinitas Summer Camp this year!  Latinitas is a national organization that works to empower young girls through media and technology.

  • DATES: JULY 9-26
  • Location: El Paso Leadership Academy
  • Ages: Entering 5th to 7th graders  
  • The camp is 3 weeks long Monday through Thursday 9 am to 5 pm.
  • Our camp is divided into 3 themes, one for each week:
    • Week 1: Culture and Community,
    • Week 2: Arts and Media,
    • Week 3: STEAM and Technology
  • Once a week you will provide lunch including the last day of summer camp which is a closing ceremony event where parents and family members are welcomed during the showcase.
  • 2 speakers and professional guests every day; 1 field trip each week
  • Snacks will be provided as well as t-shirts and other goodies!
